WHAT GUIDES ANSWER

The 3 questions every guide answers

1. What will my employee pay, and when?

Which of grant, vest, exercise and sale are taxable for each award, with the rates and the named regime that changes them.

2. How do I grant compliantly?

Board approval, valuation, grant documents, securities exemptions, and what changes when the person is a contractor rather than an employee.

3. What do I file, and by when?

The employer calendar: forms, deadlines, penalties.
WHY THIS EXISTS

Why this hub exists

A 60-person startup with employees in 8 countries may need to navigate tax rules in all 8. One relocation, say an engineer moving from Tel Aviv to Austin mid-vest, can bring a single grant under two of them. The hard part is not knowing that the rules differ. It is that they live in 8 different places and change often. So we put them in one place.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is global equity compliance?

Global equity compliance is the work of granting and administering equity under the tax, securities, employment and reporting rules of each country where a recipient lives or works. Those requirements vary by jurisdiction, award type and recipient. One cap table can sit under several sets of rules at once.

Which countries does the Global Equity Hub cover?

The United States guide is live. Guides for India, the United Kingdom, Israel, Canada, Colombia, the Netherlands, Argentina, Spain and Slovenia are coming soon. Granting in a country that is not listed? Talk to the Slice team.

What does each country guide include?

Each guide is built around the same three questions:
‍

  • How the award is taxed: which of grant, vest, exercise and sale are taxable events in that country, and for which award types.
  • How to grant compliantly: the approvals, valuation, grant documents and securities exemptions that apply to the award.
  • What the employer reports: the applicable forms, deadlines and potential penalties, where reporting is required.

What happens to an equity grant when an employee moves to another country?

A single grant can fall under the tax rules of more than one country. An engineer who relocates mid-vest may owe tax in both the old country and the new one, and the employer may have reporting duties in each. The outcome depends on the two countries involved and the timing of the move.

How does Slice help with equity tax and filings?

Slice estimates equity tax outcomes for planning in the Equity Value Simulator. Those estimates are informational, not a determination of anyone's final tax liability and not tax or legal advice. Slice does not file with tax authorities. For option exercises, the company can enter a withholding amount that Slice captures and tracks. Slice also raises compliance alerts and prepares report data for filing outside the platform.
